We had the nicest possible Memorial Day Weekend this year….The boys & I rode with my Dad {he’s the fire chief in our little town} in the Lisbon Lilac Fire Parade on Sunday night…..imagine being 5, riding in the fire truck with your Papa {who you worship}, blowing the horn & seeing your classmates line the street waving to you and shouting your name? Your mind is pretty much blown…that was my Marcus….Henry sat in my lap waving his famous little wave from the passenger’s seat….It was a night I’ll never forget…. Monday happened to be Daddy’s birthday….so while Marcus went fishing with Papa & Daddy planted the garden…Hank & I were busy bee’s in the kitchen….We made King Arthur Flour’s white cake & Martha Stewart’s Swiss Meringue frosting – no easy feat, but it was totally worth the effort! The adorable celebrate topper was made by sweet friend, Emily Steffen- you can get one here!
My gram picked some lilacs & bleeding hearts from her yard….and of course they look absolutely perfect in a vintage mason jar….I love my Gram…I still have so much to learn from her!

Figs stuffed with Blue Cheese & Wrapped in Turkey Bacon
Crostini with Walnuts, Fresh Ricotta & Toasted Walnuts & drizzled with honey & some truffle salt
Grilled BBQ chicken & Corn on the Cob & Grilled Veggie Kabobs
Spinach Salad with blue cheese, strawberries & toasted walnuts….with some homemade balsamic dressing
Fresh Cod & Perch with butter & breadcrumbs {Marcus caught the perch with Papa…he was SO excited to eat it!}
My sister & mom brought potato salad & pasta salad, too…
And yes, I pretty much spent the majority of my day in the kitchen…listening to the Country Hits on my iPhone and completely de-compressing….it was bliss.
